The most natural progression for fly fishers of all age, gender and skill level is towards the use of the new modern day Switch Rod!
The ease of casting these new incredibly lightweight rods will find favour as much amongst the boat and bank stillwater Trout fishers, where distance and accuracy can be achieved effortlessly all day long, as the Salmon and migratrory trout anglers who these were origanally designed for. The lightweight and effortless power of these new rods will be particularly appreciated by lady Salmon anglers too.
This may be a very bold statement, yet it comes from understanding the realm of possibilities these great fly rods nurture! The lighter #5 and #6 wt rods can be cast with either single or two hands very easily, whilst the #7 and #8 will involve less single-handed and more two-handed use. Spey casting especially, is easily and effectively achieved with all sizes.
Modern switch rods were first introduced in the Pacific North West of North America back in 2004, driven by the need to fish both remote small rivers and nearby coastal fisheries for Wild Steelhead and Salmon, where a solution was required to out-cast single handed rods with simplicity and ease.
The one major hurdle that desperately needed redesigning and understanding fully, was that these new rod innovations needed special fly line designs to provide the optimum performance and make them as versatile and effective as they are. The new Snowbee ‘Switch Rod’ fly lines are specifically designed to be coupled with these rods and fished with a Snowbee Poly-Coated Leader, allow you to fish a variety of waters and at levels with much fun and ease.
Almost every fly fishing arena, destination and discipline, could utilise the modern day Switch Rod and because Switch Lines require large capacity, the smallest reel size we would recommend is the Snowbee Geo 790 and for the larger sizes the Geo 910.

This is a slightly faster and more ‘energetic’ fly rod able to cross over to larger Sea Trout, Grilse and massive Reservoir Trout. These rods also deliver heavier flies and Poly Leaders without twitching and still ‘one-hand’ friendly, without unnecessary fatigue after a full days’ fishing.

This rod will be the master for the fly fisher seeking that bright Silver Spring Salmon or giant Sea Trout that may require some ‘bush whacking’, deep water wading. This rod takes hard work in its stride, yet still feels just like a trout rod, even after a days’ fishing.

This is the rod with the greatest abilities to please and deliver the greatest prizes. Casting large tube flies in pursuit of Atlantic or Pacific Salmon, Steelhead, monster Brown Trout or Pike, this rod will do it all.
